Prior to practicing clinical social work, Beth spent more than 20 years in the corporate and not-for-profit world. In 2010, she graduated with a Masters in Social Work from Fordham University. Her corporate and not-for-profit background provide her with skills that complement her practice.
Initially, Beth was interested in working with the geriatric population as a case manager to help clients and their families during this transitional developmental period. However, the found herself drawn to working with the adult inpatient psychiatric population. This population and setting allowed Beth to utilize clinical skills to directly impact clients and families while also providing case management. Her empathic personality, along with her drive and tenacity, gave her a strong ability to build therapeutic relationships with clients in crisis, as well as their families.
Beth's fundamental belief is that every human being deserves respect. Cultural sensitivity and appreciation for the dignity and worth of every person, regardless of difference, are cornerstones of this belief. On the micro level, she fights for social justice on behalf of the oppressed, disenfranchised and vulnerable populations.
Recognizing the central importance of the human relationship, Beth acts with integrity and practices within her area of competence. Colleagues have referred to Beth as an imaginative team player, who often thinks outside the box, striving to motivate her clients as well as her team. Additionally, they cite Beth's strengths in advocating for clients and their families.
Beth has extensive experience working with individuals diagnosed with affective, psychotic and personality disorders, as well as co-occurring substance use, addiction, and developmental disabilities. She is skilled in working with the adult population from young adults to geriatric and comfortable with all mental health issues as well as issues that are often commingled, such as domestic violence, homelessness, poverty, unemployment, economic concerns and need for social support.She utilizes multiple therapeutic modalities including, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Supportive Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy.
